We have moved to northwestern Washington state! Please pray for us as we settle into our new home and ministry here.
Steve is serving as Assistant Pastor at First Baptist Church under Pastor Richard Coursen. We are incredibly honored to have this ministry opportunity and excited about the new adventure in our lives. We’ll put more soon about how God lead us in this direction, but for now, here are some…
Fun Facts about Sedro-Woolley:
Sedro (sounds like see’-drow) and Woolley used to be sister cities, but they joined ranks in 1898.
Sedro-Woolley (“S-W”) is famous for its Loggerodeo held each July 4. Local residents compete (among other things) in chainsaw statue-carving contests, beard growing competitions, bicycle decorating feuds, foot-races and also the more traditional rodeo sports.
S-W is in Skagit County (Skagit rhymes with gadget) which is famous for its tulips. The whole month of April is devoted to the tulip festival!
There are about 10,000 people in S-W.
S-W’s nickname is “The Gateway to the Cascades.” The mountains in our area are AMAZING!
On May 15, 1922, a large circus elephant known as Tusko escaped from the Al G. Barnes Circus, which was making one of its stops in Sedro-Woolley, at that time. The elephant stomped his way through the little logging town demolishing fences, knocking over laundry lines and trees, telephone poles, and a Model T along the way. We were in S-W for 8 days in March, 2009, and two people told us about this story. If news from 1922 is still being repeated eighty-seven years later, you can imagine that not much happens in this quiet, rural town. We love the change of pace!
S-W is about 40 miles south of British Columbia, Canada, about 15 miles east of water (bays that lead to the Pacific Ocean), about 60 miles north of Seattle and about 2,400 miles west of NYC.
Thanks for excellent photos of great western trek in really yellow truck! We have pulled our trailer out West and back many times and will do it again soon. We prayed for an enjoyable, stress free adventure. God has given you wonderful place to serve and extra fine pastor with whom to co-labor. Go for souls!
We love you guys and look forward to hearing of God’s blessings on you there.
